Girls' Volleyball | Gus Culver

Coach Gus Culver began his coaching career following his graduation from rival Capistrano Valley High School.  In 24 years, Coach Culver has coached at numerous local high schools, clubs, and at Saddleback College.  In 2003, Coach Culver was hired to coach the boys’ volleyball team at Mission Viejo High School. The boys’ made the playoffs for the first time in many years, losing in the quarter-finals to the eventual champion. Coach Culver was recognized as the Register’s High School Boys Volleyball Coach of the Year. Coach Culver was hired as a Social Studies teacher and to take over the girls’ volleyball program at Mission Viejo High School the following year. In 2006, the Mission Viejo girls won their first ever league championship in school history, a feat repeated in 2010.  The girls also made several trips to the CIF playoffs, reaching the semi-finals, and multiple trips to the quarter-finals. In Coach Culver’s 2 years at Dana Hills High School, the Dolphins have won back-to-back Sea View League Championships (16-0) and have a record of 42-14. Coach Culver has also coached many successful girls and boys’ club teams earning 7 medals competing at the Junior Olympics.  Coach Culver’s Balboa Bay 15’s team recently won his 3rd National Championship.   Coach Culver graduated with BA degree in Social Science from Cal State Fullerton, followed by his teaching credential and Master’s from National University.  Coach Culver is currently a teacher at El Toro High School and resides in Mission Viejo with his wife, Amanda, and boys, Jack (13) and Brad (7).
