Raymond P. Woods, Artistic Director

South Orange County School of the Arts at Dana Hills High School

Raymond P. Woods is the Artistic Director of the South Orange County School of the Arts at Dana Hills High School in Dana Point, California, where he has served as the vocal music and AP Music Theory instructor for the past 34 years. Ray has an extensive background in music which includes being an accomplished pianist, organist and harpsichordist with over 40 years of experience in choral directing. He received his B.S. at Whittier College, an M.A. from Occidental College and has undertaken doctoral studies at the University of Southern California. During his career he has founded and directed several community chorales and is currently in his 37th year as the Director of Music at the United Methodist Church in Garden Grove.  Since 2002 he has served as the Musical Director of the South Coast Singers, Orange County’s premier pops chorale.  Mr. Woods was named the Dana Point Chamber of Commerce’s Educator of the Year in 2003, with additional commendation by the State of California and the United States Senate, and in 2007 he was honored with  the Outstanding Educator of the Year Award by Arts Orange County and the Orange County Department of Education.   He was also Teacher of the Year at Dana Hills High School in 2014-15.   Ray and his wife, Amy, reside in San Juan Capistrano, where they have lived for over 30 years.
